On May 27, 2015 members of the team SUMERO participated at the Conference “Europe in Action” organized by Inclusion Europe and ANFAS who welcomed more than 350 participants. Andrea Bilzandzic, of SUMERO, reports.
This is a yearly event that has become a tradition for many people with intellectual disabilities, their families, carers and representative organisations. The conference included discussions of self-advocacy and families, also about the United Nations Convention on the Right of Persons with Disabilities. The personal and political dimensions of self-advocacy were central to the programme, particular in relation to issues such as legal capacity, political participation, accessibility, health, education and community-living.
SUMERO used this opportunity to familiarize the participants of the conference with the Self-Advocacy Group and their achievements. Participants were also informed about the Declaration and the “Right to Act”. Many signed the Declaration and gave their utmost support to our objectives. On the occasion of such a significant event, SUMERO tried to enlarge the list of those who signed the Declaration beyond the borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
