A Major Supporter in Albania – Vice Minister Kospiri Supports the Right to Act

PERSONlogowith text

We’re gaining support for our campaign every day. Today we are proud to report a major feat from the Albanian Disability Rights Foundation (ADRF). They have gained the support from a key figure in the Ministry for Social Welfare and Youth. ADRF advocate, Sidita Fortuzi reports.

Ms. Bardhylka Kospiri, a long time activist, paraplegic, a woman who became vice minister of the Social Welfare and Youth Ministry, was present at the PERSON 2 Kick-Off Conference in Tirana in March. During that day she acknowledged the major challenges in implementing article 12. Amongst things she shared at the conference she also stated:

“By ratifying the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Albanian Government has already undertaken the responsibility to address the right to legal the capacity to act for all disability groups and giving appropriate assistance.”

“Let us work together to continue the process of implementation.”

Ms. Kospiri’s support for the Right to Act campaign will be an important step in restoring the legal capacity of thousands of Albanians whose right to decide is restricted on the discriminatory basis that they have disability.

ADRF are among a small group within Albania who are campaigning on this issue, and which are advocating for individuals whose rights are being stripped away. We applaud the vice-ministers promotion of this issue and look forward to working together to bring about human rights based change.
